Camille Gorgé was Switzerland’s ambassador to Japan between 1940 and 1945. During the Second World War, he played a key role safeguarding Swiss economic interests, among them major raw silk trading houses based in Yokohama. Gorgé was also one of the very few foreign diplomats who stayed in the country during the war and he kept a diary. The translation of this key source into Japanese offers researchers and the general public in Japan valuable insights into Swiss-Japanese diplomatic and economic relations.
